Decolonization involves challenging dominant Western epistemologies and valuing indigenous and local knowledge systems. It is about addressing the power asymmetries in knowledge production, questioning what constitutes knowledge and scientific research and why that structure needs to be reimagined and transformed (Abebe, Dar and Lyså 2022).
