Key Takeaways | Supporting Children’s Agency through Community Development

From 15–17 October, the co-training course Supporting Children’s Agentivity through Community Development took place at AICEED Tangier, Morocco, bringing together around thirty participants from 22 organizations.

The workshop offered a space for critical reflection and practical engagement with concepts central to the K-Reporters approach: children’s agency, intersectionality, non-adult-centered relationships, and post-conflict contexts. Participants explored how to rethink trust with children, learning to start from “points of suffering as a bond of belonging” to foster more equitable and participatory interactions.

A highlight of the course was the cartography activity, which allowed participants to apply and adapt key concepts to their professional practices. Initially, some questioned the relevance of using cartography with children, but by the end of the three-day course, it became clear that this tool is essential to reversing adult-centered perspectives and promoting children’s agency. Plans are already underway to implement cartography-based activities with children in various local contexts and associations in Tangier.

The course also underscored the value of community and collaboration, enriched by the warm welcome and support of the AICEED team, which made the experience both productive and inspiring.
